As a parent of teens, I understand the social and emotional factors that go into choosing an orthodontist. While cost, competency and location are all important points - we always have our kids’ best interests at heart and it’s not just the end results that matter. Braces are a long term investment in your child’s smile, and we want them to be happy during process, not only with the finished product. That’s one of the reasons I offer clear brackets at my practice.
Teens and pre-teens already have so much on their plates. When working to give them the smile they’ve always wanted we want them to be happy during the process, not miserable. Below are some of the reasons I believe clear brackets are a great choice:
Selfie Approved: No closed-lipped selfies here! If your teen or pre-teen is self-conscious about his or her appearance in photos, clear brackets could be the right choice.
Confidence Booster: A recent study found that teens wearing clear appliances are twice as likely to experience a boost in self-esteem while in treatment than teens treated with metal braces.
Superior Bond: With clear brackets there is a superior bond, so you don’t need to worry about brackets becoming loose or broken. That means fewer emergency visits to the orthodontist, and therefore fewer interruptions to your busy schedule! No need to miss band, dance, sports, gymnastics practice because of a loose bracket.
No Pain Removal: Completing your orthodontic treatment should be a happy occasion, not a painful one. Often the removal of clear brackets can be painful because of their superior bond, but I’ve perfected my technique over 20 years and hundreds of patients ensuring lack of pain and happy, beautiful smiles.
I went into Orthodontics because I love working with my hands and I love science...but I also love working with kids to give them the smiles they’ve always hoped for. Some orthodontists shy away from clear brackets because they can be difficult to work with but I’ve worked hard to become proficient at clear braces, ensuring great parallel placement, bonding and removal technique. I’m proud to say many of my patients opt for clear braces!
We treat patients of all ages, from full treatment at ages 10-14 to older teens and adults. If you’d like to know more about clear braces, please contact our offices for a consultation today!

Braces can be painful, but if you are a teen who loves being social, the worst part about them can be their look. They show up in your photos, and you will not be able to take braces-free photos for several months, or even years. The time will pass, though, and your teeth will be the better for it. In the meantime, consider the other people who have survived braces.
Plenty of People Get Braces
There are many reasons for getting braces:
- Correct an overbite or underbite
- Straighten teeth
- Fix poorly-spaced teeth
With so many possible ways to get braces, it’s no surprise that they are so common.
Find Out Who Had Braces
The long lists of celebrities who had braces as teenagers or even adults can give you the comfort of knowing you are in good company. Even better, these lists provide visible proof that there is life on the other side of braces. Actors and actresses on the Cosby Show, Scrubs, and Ugly Betty, as well as tennis star Martina Hingis and Miss America 1975, Shirley Cothran, had braces. Ask your parents. If they didn’t have braces, there is a good chance that some of their siblings did.
Benefits of Braces
Wearing braces can make your life a lot better in the future. Your teeth will be more attractive, and your smile will shine through in photos of you. Straight teeth are not just about looks, though. They can prevent a variety of health problems, such as caries, gum disease, speech impairments, and trouble chewing. Be patient, and the benefits of braces will come.

When it comes to straightening your smile, our team at Remington Orthodontics knows that having a mouth full of metal braces may not be your idea of fun. Luckily for you, Dr. Lynn Remington can offer a cosmetic alternative: Invisalign!
Using a series of clear, comfortable, and completely customized aligners, you can get the smile you’ve always wanted without traditional braces.
Since Invisalign aligners are discreet, they’re hardly noticeable when you speak and smile, and because they’re removable, you can eat and drink whatever you want. Just remember to brush and floss before putting your aligners back in! Treatment with Invisalign is just as effective as with metal braces, and the results are just as amazing!

Invisalign, which we happily provide at Remington Orthodontics, is a great alternative to traditional orthodontic treatment if you've been apprehensive about the thought of metal braces. During your initial visit, the first thing we do is take an impression of your teeth as they are now and digitize it. Using special software, we look at the current positioning of your teeth and compare it to the way your teeth should look.
Invisalign treatment, which consists of a series of aligners that you switch out approximately every couple of weeks, can help patients with crowded teeth, crossbites, overbites, underbites and more. Invisalign gradually shifts your teeth into place, creating the dazzling smile you’ve always wanted. During treatment with Dr. Lynn Remington, patients wear the aligners all day and night, except for during meals and when they’re brushing and flossing; cleaning your teeth and eating are a snap since you can easily remove your aligners! And because they’re clear, no one will know that your teeth are steadily straightening!
To find out if you are the right candidate for Invisalign treatment, we invite you to give us a call at our convenient Moon Township or Sewickley office and schedule a consultation.
